Italian Herb & Parmesan Pizza Crust

When you don’t have time to make pizza crust from scratch, you can still make a pizza special by customizing the crust!  All you need is an egg, your favorite Italian spices, and some Parmesan cheese.  There are so many possibilities!

The folks over at Pillsbury asked some bloggers how to “customize the crust” of their Classic Pizza dough to make it one of a kind.  I am excited to show you what I had in mind!

Start by preparing your toppings.  For this recipe, I chose to use my son’s favorite pizza toppings:  bacon and black olives!  Then you’ll need the goods for the crust: grated Parmesan cheese, an egg white, and Italian seasoning.  Shred your own Parmesan cheese for the best results!

First, separate the yolk and the white.

Don’t toss that extra egg yolk!  Use it in some thick and chewy chocolate chip cookie bars!

Then, dust the baking pan with some cornmeal so it won’t stick.  Plus, I like the little extra crunch it gives the dough!

If you have time to make your own crust, I highly recommend it!  However, if you’re short on time, Pillsbury has some super-easy-to-use dough.  I grabbed a roll of their “Classic” dough, but I think the new Artisan wheat crust sounds amazing!

Press the dough into the pan.

Then, it’s time to customize the crust!  Spread the outer edge with the beaten egg white.

Sprinkle the coated crust with some Italian seasoning and the Parmesan cheese.  Layer it on as thick or as thin as you like.

Pre-bake the crust.  This will melt the cheese slightly, but it won’t get really crispy until after you bake it with the toppings.

Top with your favorite toppings.  As I mentioned before, I used bacon and black olives as a treat for my son!

Now, it’s one final trip into the oven to get browned, bubbly, and delicious!

Look at that yummy, crispy crust!  Enjoy!
