Chewy Brownie Cookies are chewy and chocolatey, just like a homemade brownie.   A perfect accompaniment to a large glass of milk!  If you appreciate homemade brownies, I think you will enjoy these cookies.

Chewy Brownie Cookies

It’s worth noting that these taste like homemade brownies, not a boxed mix.  If you’re only a fan of a boxed mixes, these will not taste quite the same, and warn just because I don’t want to disappoint you!

Here is what you need…  Nothing out of the ordinary, so chances are good that you could make these today 🙂

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Mix together the shortening and sugar until it’s light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, milk, and vanilla.

Then, add the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda and stir just until blended. I even stop a little bit short of blended since there are still chocolate chips to stir in.

Stir in the chocolate chips by hand.  You can use white chocolate chips, semisweet chocolate chips, or even milk chocolate chips.  I bet that mint chips or even caramel bits would be delicious additions!  White chips were good, but they were a little on the sweet side for my husband and I.  The kids thought they were delicious 😉

Scoop the dough by tablespoons, and drop 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Chewy Brownie Cookies

Bake for 7 to 9 minutes. Do not overbake!  If you like soft cookies, it’s almost always better to err on the side of “underdone” rather than “overdone”!

Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

These taste the best the day that you make them.  But, if you have extras, store them in an airtight container.
